Lock and Dam 25 Improvements

Advanced Concrete Sawing provided specialized concrete cutting services at Lock and Dam 25, a critical navigation facility on the Upper Mississippi River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

As part of ongoing infrastructure improvements, ACS performed precision core drilling and wire sawing operations to facilitate the construction of new line hook and mooring bitt recess within the lock structure as a preporatory step for the upcoming lock extesion project. Our crews core drilled a series of access holes that were utilized in conjunction with wire sawing equipment to remove heavily reinforced concrete and create the openings required for the new mooring bitt system.

Working within a lock and dam facility requires careful planning, precise execution, and close coordination with the project team. The combination of core drilling and wire sawing allowed ACS to perform the structural modifications while maintaining the accuracy required for installation of the new mooring bitt and line hook components. At the location of the auxilary miter gate recess which was getting infilled, we deployed our electric remote robot with scarifying head to roughen up the entire vertical surface where the new pour was being done saving the general contractor multiple manhours.

Although smaller in scope than some of our larger lock rehabilitation projects, Lock and Dam 25 further demonstrates ACS’s experience performing specialized concrete cutting operations within critical navigation infrastructure throughout the nation’s inland waterway system.
