Minnesota State Office Building Renovation & Expansion

Advanced Concrete Sawing is providing specialized concrete cutting and robotic demolition services as part of the renovation and expansion of the historic Minnesota State Office Building. Originally constructed in 1932, the building is undergoing comprehensive modernization designed to preserve its historic character while creating a modern legislative facility for future generations.

Working within the highly secure Capitol Complex, ACS has performed a wide range of structural modifications throughout the facility. Early in the project, our crews removed the existing parapet walls in preparation for complete roof removal and construction activities associated with the building’s expansion and renovation.

One of the most significant portions of ACS’s work involved creating two large multi-story atriums within the existing structure. Concrete floor systems were cut by ACS and subsequently demolished using our remote-controlled robotic demolition equipment. This process was repeated floor by floor, from the roof level through six floors to the basement, creating the large open spaces required for the building’s new design.

Additional work has included the removal of two stairwells, demolition of two mechanical shafts, widening of numerous doorway openings, selective demolition of interior structural elements, openings for the construction of a connection to the adjacent parking ramp, and extensive core drilling throughout the facility.

This ongoing project showcases ACS’s ability to combine precision concrete cutting with robotic demolition to execute complex structural modifications within one of Minnesota’s most prominent historic government buildings.
