Advanced Concrete Sawing provided specialized concrete cutting services as part of the rehabilitation of the historic Franklin Avenue Bridge, a 1,055-foot Mississippi River crossing and one of Minneapolis’ most recognizable landmarks. Originally completed in 1923, the bridge was undergoing major improvements designed to preserve the structure and extend its service life for future generations.
ACS utilized specialized curb cutting equipment to remove approximately 2,110 linear feet of concrete railing throughout the project. Each section was carefully rigged prior to cutting and, once freed from the structure, was lifted by crane and lowered to barges positioned below the bridge for removal.
In addition to the railing removals, ACS performed wire sawing operations on multiple bridge pier caps. The heavily reinforced concrete sections were precision cut, rigged, and safely flown from the bridge to barges on the Mississippi River below. The work required extensive planning and coordination between cutting crews, crane operators, and marine support personnel to ensure safe and efficient removals.
Working high above the river and within a historic structure, ACS provided the precision concrete cutting services necessary to support rehabilitation of one of Minnesota’s most significant concrete arch bridges.
