Smith Avenue High Bridge Rehabilitation

Advanced Concrete Sawing provided specialized concrete cutting services as part of the rehabilitation of the historic Smith Avenue High Bridge, the second highest bridge within the state of Minnesota and, one of St. Paul’s most recognizable landmarks, as well as a critical transportation link across the Mississippi River.

The rehabilitation project involved extensive structural improvements designed to extend the service life of the bridge while enhancing safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. Working within a highly coordinated construction environment, ACS performed a wide range of precision concrete cutting operations to support deck reconstruction, railing replacement, utility modifications, and other structural improvements throughout the project.

Over the course of the rehabilitation, ACS completed more than 35,742 linear feet of flat sawing, 6,456 linear feet of wall sawing, and 5,527 linear feet of concrete railing cutting. In addition, our crews drilled approximately 2,500 core holes to accommodate the safe removal of pieces, utility installations, and structural modifications.

The scale of the project required careful planning, experienced operators, and the ability to maintain production while working on one of the region’s most important river crossings. Through close coordination with the construction team, ACS delivered the specialized cutting services necessary to help modernize and preserve this iconic bridge for future generations.
