Byllesby Dam Hydroelectric Redevelopment

Advanced Concrete Sawing played a key role in the redevelopment of the historic Byllesby Dam hydroelectric facility, providing the specialized concrete cutting and removal required for the complete demolition of the original powerhouse.

Built in 1910, the powerhouse had served the facility for more than a century. As part of a major modernization effort, the aging structure was removed and replaced with a new powerhouse designed to support modern turbines, generators, and electrical systems.

Working within an active dam facility, ACS performed precision concrete cutting throughout multiple phases of construction. Our scope included powerhouse demolition, foundation modifications, monolithic concrete separation cuts, stop-log gate modifications, removal of large concrete intakes, structural work, pier modifications, and cutting operations associated with cofferdam installation and removal. The work required careful planning and execution to protect adjacent structures, maintain water control operations, and support an aggressive construction schedule.

Over the course of the project, ACS cut and removed more than 1.7 million pounds of reinforced concrete, creating the space needed for construction of the new powerhouse and installation of upgraded hydroelectric equipment.

The project required extensive coordination due to the size of the removals, proximity to critical water control structures, and complexity of working within a historic hydroelectric facility. Through close collaboration with the project team, ACS helped deliver the precision removals necessary to modernize this important renewable energy asset while preserving the integrity of the surrounding dam infrastructure.
